The Famous Bay Harbour Market
It was a warm yet overcast day when I visited the Bay Harbour Market, and being in the coolness of this trendy market was a great way to spend the morning.
This market is situated in a converted old fish factory and offers a wide variety of food and products; from bags to crystals, and from soup to Tunisian delicacies. The market flows from product vendors through to food vendors and is very spacious inside. There is plenty of space to move around, even when the market is at its busiest.
The vendors are very happy to talk to you about their products, most of which are locally-made and handmade. A great example of this are the military-grade canvas bags which are made in Hout Bay itself!
Apart from all the mouthwatering foods on offer, I particularly loved the inclusive nature of the market; the typical vendors of African carvings traded alongside handmade canvas bags and a photo printing shop.
The market runs on Friday evening and in the morning through to the afternoon on Saturday and Sunday every weekend. There is plenty of free parking available and there is also amazing live entertainment by local artists; different music can be heard every market day.
The Bay Harbour Market is definitely a great way to spend a few hours of your weekend as there is definitely something for everyone to enjoy.
