Hermanuspietersfontein Food & Wine Market

The weather looked rather gloomy when we took a leisurely drive down to Hermanus to visit this delicious market, but that didn't deter us at all. I quite enjoyed watching the low hanging clouds add an element of the dramatic to the scenery as we drove east from Cape Town.

The Hermanuspietersonfontein Market is tucked away in the back left corner of The Village in Hemel en Aarde Road and is not difficult to find. There is a generous parking lot inside The Village and as you walk in to the market there is wine tasting on your right and outdoor seating on your left. On this particular day, the undercover seating was being used instead and the traders were kept warm and dry by a covering. The market has a cheerful atmosphere and there is plenty of gourmet food to tempt you.

Wine-lovers can enjoy tasting the different varietals on offer from the Hermanuspietersfontein vineyard (for free!) while browsing a selection of cheese and charcuterie to make up a personalised tasting plate. If you'd like to try permlemoen or are a fan of local seafood, you can get your fix here. Take home some fantastic home-made bakes or rosemary flavoured olive oil to enjoy later and look out for the beautiful fynbos flowers on sale.

No matter the weather, The Hermanuspietersfontein Food & Wine Market comes highly recommended.
